Giza city and Giza plateau
Giza city contains the first pyramid in the world also it contains the greatest and biggest pyramids.
Giza plateau is the most famous place in Giza, it contains Giza pyramids, which considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
Giza city it’s one of the important provinces in Egypt that has a lot of Pharaonic monuments, yu should know that in Giza there are more than one pyramid you can visit Saqqara pyramid (the first step pyramid in the world ), Dahshur pyramids (dates back to the father of king Cheops) and city of Memphis( the first capital of Egypt).
The city was used as the necropolis of Egypt during the pharaonic era, for that reason you will find a lot of tombs and pyramids but the most famous one is Giza pyramids.
It’s located on the west bank of the Nile opposite Cairo, it includes the large part of the desert also Baharyia oasis.

The 4th dynasty necropolis was undoubtedly the Giza plateau, dominated by the pyramids of Cheops and his successors.
The Giza pyramids surrounded by streets of mastaba tombs belonging to the officers and dignitaries who continued to attend their master’s courts in the hereafter.
Khufu was still attested in the site period 26th dynasty and was increasingly popular during the Roman period.

According to the Turin canon, Khufu reigned for 23 years, and the length ascribed to him by Manetho is 63 years.
Giza plateau nowadays:
It consists of 3 great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure from the old kingdom
and several small satellite pyramids known as Queens’ pyramids and also contains the great sphinx.
The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest pyramid to be built in Egypt.
It was initially 147 m. in height.
Nowadays, its height is 136-7m. This simply means that the pyramid lost 11m., the stones of which used in the construction of mosques and mausoleums in the Medival Cairo.
In this area, you can testify the power of the pharaonic religion and state.
What you can do in Giza Plateau:
- You can go inside the great pyramid itself and also you can visit some small tombs.
- You can ride a camel or a horse to go to the desert and take the best photos with the panorama of the pyramids.
