Giza city:

Giza city contains the first pyramid in the world also it contains the greatest and biggest pyramids.

Giza plateau is the most famous place in Giza, it contains Giza pyramids, which considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Giza city it’s one of the important provinces in Egypt that has a lot of Pharaonic monuments, yu should know that in Giza there are more than one pyramid you can visit Saqqara pyramid (the first step pyramid in the world ), Dahshur pyramids (dates back to the father of king Cheops)  and city of Memphis( the first capital of Egypt).

The city was used as the necropolis of Egypt during the pharaonic era, for that reason you will find a lot of tombs and pyramids but the most famous one is Giza pyramids.

It’s located on the west bank of the Nile opposite Cairo, it includes the large part of the desert also Baharyia oasis.

There are many places you can visit in Giza city:

  • Giza plateau
  • Saqqara complex
  • Dahshur pyramids
  • City of Memphis
  • Attend to the sound and light show

Giza plateau:


Giza Plateau is the most famous place in Giza, it contains Giza pyramids, which considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

The 4th dynasty necropolis was undoubtedly the Giza plateau, dominated by the pyramids of Cheops and his successors.


The Giza pyramids surrounded by streets of mastaba tombs belonging to the officers and dignitaries who continued to attend their master’s courts in the hereafter.

Khufu was still attested in the site period 26th dynasty and was increasingly popular during the Roman period.

According to the papyrus west car, Khufu liked to listen to some stories of the reigns of his predecessors.

In this text, he portrayed as the traditional legendary monarch, good-natured, and eager to be shown magical things,

amiable towards his inferiors, and interested like human existence.

The construction of his tomb was one of his main concerns and the fourth tale in papyrus.

Westcar describes his request for the secret chambers of the sanctuary of Thoth’ which he wanted to create in his mortuary temple.

It was on this occasion that he became acquainted with a magician from the Meidum pyramid, called Diedi.

This magician revealed to him that the secret he desired would be passed on to him by the first king of the next dynasty, Userkaf, the eldest son of Re and the wife f a Heliopolitan priest.

The rest of the papyrus describes the marvelous birth of the three first rulers of the 5th dynasty.

The text breaks off before the end of the story.

Considering that his tomb was the largest monument in Egypt and one of the seven wonders of the world, it is surprising that the only surviving sculpture of Cheops is a tiny ivory statuette.

The broken fragments of this unique portrait were found at Abydos by Flinders Petrie, and the reconstructed statuette now displays at the Cairo Museum.

A graffito in Wadi Maghara shows that he continued his father’s work in Sinai. And a stela in the diorite quarries of the Nubian desert to the Weast of Abu Simbel testifies to his activity south of the First Cataract.

According to the Turin canon, Khufu reigned for 23 years, and the length ascribed to him by Manetho is 63 years.

Giza plateau nowadays:

It consists of 3 great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure from the old kingdom

and several small satellite pyramids known as Queens’ pyramids and also contains the great sphinx.

The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest pyramid to be built in Egypt.

It was initially 147 m. in height.

Nowadays, its height is 136-7m. This simply means that the pyramid lost 11m., the stones of which used in the construction of mosques and mausoleums in the Medival Cairo.

In this area, you can testify the power of the pharaonic religion and state.

What you can do in Giza Plateau:

  • You can go inside the great pyramid itself and also you can visit some small tombs.
  • You can ride a camel or a horse to go to the desert and take the best photos with the panorama of the pyramids.
  • At night there is the sound and light show.
